How far can you remember back. The Red Lion would seem to have been here forever. At least these photographs indicate that.
This is the Red Lion with children standing outside on what is now the A184 .
Note the house at the top of the bank.
In those days the traffic from Sunderland would pass St Nicholas Church and come down Rectory Bank. Rectory Bank ends at the junction shown on the left hand side at the forefront of the picture. Opposite the Red Lion is Gateshead Terrace.
Nothing much has changed here exept for the high railings around the houses.
Osbourne House was once the local doctors surgery.

One of the biggest events of the year is the christmas festival which cumulates at the Red Lion for carol singing and other activities.
