History

How far can you remember back. The Red Lion would seem to have been here forever. At least these photographs indicate that.

This is the Red Lion with children standing outside on what is now the A184 .

Note the house at the top of the bank.

In those days the traffic from Sunderland would pass St Nicholas Church and come down Rectory Bank. Rectory Bank ends at the junction shown on the left hand side at the forefront of the picture. If your interested in the history of the Boldons the have a look at  Boldon History website which explains in more depth about our community, the buildings and the people.

Opposite the Red Lion is Gateshead Terrace.

Nothing much has changed here exept for the high railings around the houses.

Osbourne House was once the local doctors surgery.

This is an old photo of the pub. Any ideas
what year it was taken in.

The Red Lion has always had strong links with the Boldon  community so its natural that we   link you direct to the  Boldon community website. to see what going on in our village.

One of the biggest events of the year is the christmas festival which cumulates at the Red Lion for carol singing and other activities.

 Bar Area

Behind the bar and in the restaurant you will find a wide range of wines, beers, champagne and fine ales. In addition we have a wide selection of whisky and various other drinks to suit the occasion.

Restaurant

Our conservatory which houses part of the restaurant faces West, where you can enjoy an evening meal whilst watching the sun go down.
Conservatory

Summer is almost upon us, and what better way to enjoy the sunlight, than from inside our conservatory.

Several evening customers have commented on how nice and it is to be sat in the conservatory having dinner while catching the last few rays of sunshine, away from the night chill
The Snug

Tucked away with its own bar area  and away from the restaurant  is a "chill out " meeting place frequented by  local customers and those that pass us on the way home from work.

Join us for a game of dominoes, to catch up on the days news or simply just for a chat.

A good way to end the day before you continue on your journey home.
